Water

Increasing sea levels and river discharge affected by climate change pose a threat to coastal and river defence systems in the delta areas

Climate change will further reduce access to safe drinking water. Glacier melt water currently supplies water to over a billion people; once it disappears, populations, also in the delta areas, will be under pressure and are likely to migrate to other regions of the world, causing local or even global upheaval and insecurity. Also, drought-affected areas are likely to increase.
