Connecting Delta Cities
This book explores the different aspects of climate adaptation; it is an independent investigation of comparative adaptation problems and progress in the cities of Rotterdam, New York and Jakarta. In this regard, each city faces different challenges; one of the lessons of the Connecting Delta Cities initiative is that while cities will follow adaptation paths that may differ, sometimes substantially, each city can learn from the others. Read more Dutch Dialogues: New Orleans-NetherlandsIn late Summer, 2005, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita laid to waste large segments of the US Gulf Coast and overwhelmed New Orleans. The Netherlands Government quickly dispatched emergency aid, pumps and engineers to help with disaster recovery. Since then, Dutch and American engineers have worked to improve the flood protection infrastructure around New Orleans, and are engaging in cooperative research to reduce subsidence, restore wetlands and enhance ecosystem resiliency along the Louisiana Gulf Coast. This book demonstrates that common challenges are better addressed together.

Climate change adaptation in the Inner Niger Delta
This video presents better use of the water of the Inner Niger Delta in a changing climate.
Watch movie Connecting Delta Cities
This film explores the impacts of global warming on coastal cities. As the ice sheets of Antarctica and Greenland melt, sea levels rise. This poses significant challenges and requires action on the part of coastal cities like Jakarta, Rotterdam, New York and Alexandria. In this film scientists and policy makers of each city share their view on current problems and explain future plans. The film shows that all coastal cities face similar problems - problems that can be tackled more efficiently through an exchange of knowledge and intensive cooperation.
Watch movie Louisiana wetlandsWith its coastal lowlands sinking, Louisiana pushes expensive plans to re-make the Mississippi River and allow the restoration of a self-sustaining delta.
